Literatur hinter Gittern mit Deniz Utlu
The international literature festival berlin organizes annual readings in prisons throughout the city.
In »Vaters Meer«, his third and latest novel, Deniz Utlu, writer and Alfred Döblin Award winner, tells of a stroke of fate that affects an entire family, of a father-son relationship that ends abruptly, and of migration and belonging. »In an immediately touching and humorous language, Deniz Utlu lets us participate in the conflicts, celebrations, and everyday life of a family. He opens up a geography of memory for German literature that stretches from Hanover far into Turkey, to the Syrian border« [Alfred Döblin Prize Jury].
The reading, which will take place at the Justizvollzugsanstalt des Offenen Vollzuges, will also be open to a limited number of external visitors. Tickets for this event are only available online. Please bring a valid identification document to the event, without which admission cannot be granted. (DE)
6 pm | JVA des Offenen Vollzugs, Robert-von-Ostertag-Str. 2

ONE TO(O) MANY. Issue 01 Isa Genzken. Office Lighting
One to(o) Many is a magazine all about criticism, that is, opinion. The concept is simple: one work of art, many different opinions. In each issue, we invite different people from different backgrounds to express their thoughts and opinions on a particularly relevant work of art.
The magazine serves both as a source of information and as a stimulus and encouragement for readers to form their own opinions. So that people can enter into conversation and, above all, stay in conversation. One work—many opinions.
Issue 01 is dedicated to the sculpture ›Office Lighting‹ (2008) by the German artist Isa Genzken (*1948). Thirty different people from a wide variety of backgrounds formulate their thoughts and opinions on the work of the successful sculptor, who turns 75 this year.
Talk with Laura Helena Wurth and Louisa Hölker.
6 pm | Berlin Art Week Garten, Potsdamer Straße 50

Moshtari Hilal: Hässlichkeit
Who actually determines what is beautiful and what is ugly? Why are we afraid of ugliness? Highly poetic and intimate, Moshtari Hilal tells a story of self-images and self-doubt. Her search for clues leads to Darwin’s theory of evolution, to beauty salons in Kabul, to Kim Kardashian and the utopian place in the shadow of the nose. She presents personal memories, analyses, found images and her own drawings, and leads us into that innermost realm where self-image is put to the test.
Read by Susana AbdulMajid. Hosted by Jina Khayyer. (DE)

Gallery Weekend Festival at Studio Mondial
For the first time ever, the Gallery Weekend Festival will take place as part of Berlin Art Week. Held at Studio Mondial on Kurfürstendamm, formerly a hotel, the festival will feature an extensive programme of performances, screenings, sound pieces, readings, and installations. More than 40 of Gallery Weekend Berlin’s galleries will participate in the festival, presenting contributions by their represented artists alongside their concurrent gallery exhibitions. Curated by Sandra Teitge, the programme’s focus is mostly on younger positions that oscillate between traditional disciplines in a non-hierarchical way and thus open up new spaces of experience.
Find the schedule here.
from 12 pm | Studio Mondial, Kurfürstendamm 47
